Paper GuidelinesPapers shall be processed through Microsoft Word. Papers shall be no more than 12 pages in length, including all figures, tables, illustrations, footnotes, cites, references and such. Twelve pages is the maximum. Use 12-point Times New Roman font throughout the paper, 1 inch margins on all sides. Double space the text of the paper; single space the abstract, block quotations, notes and references. Number all pages, place number in the center of the page at the bottom. Place the title of your paper at the top, followed by the names of the student authors and the faculty mentors. Next should be the abstract, a single paragraph no more than 250 words long. An abstract briefly defines the problem, question, or specific topic addressed by the research or scholarship, or the purpose of the creative project. It indicates the methods and/or approach taken in the inquiry and summarizes results or conclusions. It should be written in grammatically correct, logically connected sentences, and it should be understandable by any audience with a reasonable knowledge of its field. An abstract should not include charts, tables, figures, or spreadsheets. Each discipline has citation styles and papers shall follow the style used by the discipline. Some examples are MLA, APA or Chicago. Please work with your faculty mentors to determine which should be used. Below are some websites from other universities that provide a variety of information about the structure, sections and citation styles of typical research papers.
